Scottish Independence Referendum 2014..

The Scottish independence referendum took place in Scotland on 18 September 2014.

This was a referendum to decide on Scottish independence.

Should Scotland be an independent country?

NO : 2,001,926 (55.3%) voted against independence.
YES: 1,617,989 (44.7%) voting for independence.

84.6% of electors voted in this referendum, the highest percentage for any UK election, or referendum, in the United Kingdom since 1928.

Dundee, Glasgow, North Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire all voted in Favour of Scottish independence, (with the yes vote being between 51.1% and 57.3%) but the other 28 council areas voted against.

Orkney had the highest vote AGAINST Independence with 67.2% against.
Dundee had the highest vote FOR Independence with 57.3% for.

Alex Salmond, the Scottish First Minister, called the referendum a “triumph for the democratic process and for participation in politics”, but confirmed that he would step down as leader of the SNP and Scottish First Minister, with the words: “for me, as leader, my time is nearly over, but for Scotland the campaign continues and the dream shall never die”.
