BREXIT Vote by Age Group

The difference between OLD and YOUNG for Remain
81% of the YOUNG wanted REMAIN, that could have been 4.76 million votes from the 18-24 age group
41% of the OLD wanted REMAIN, that could have been 4.53 million votes from the over 65 age group

It seems that maybe not enough YOUNG people cared enough to vote ?
It’s easier to blame another generation rather than your own ?

The Young Blame the OId for Brexit..

How do the numbers really show where the votes went?

16,141,241 people voted to Remain a member of the European Union in the 2016 UE Referendum
17,410,742 voted to Leave the European Union
71.8% of registered voters actually voted.
That means that 13,177,798 did NOT vote.

When they Blame the OLD, how old is OLD ?

  • If 65 and over is OLD, then with 11 million voters 65 and over and 39.7 million registered voters UNDER 65, the OLD cannot be blamed
  • If 45 and over is OLD, then with 26.8 million voters 45 and over and 24 million registered voters UNDER 45 the REMAIN vote missed out on 8 million possible extra votes from the 18-44 age group who could have swung the result to REMAIN so easily.
  • If 31 and over is OLD, then with 39.6 million voters 31 and over and 11.2 million registered voters UNDER 31, the OLD contributed 5 Million to the Remain Vote, if all the young were interested enough to vote and voted Remain.
  • If 25 and over is OLD, then with 44.9 million voters 25 and over and 5.9 million registered voters UNDER 25, the OLD contributed 10 Million to the Remain Vote, if all the young were interested enough to vote and voted Remain.

Headlines like these show the young blaming the old.

39,727,994 18-64

11,054,901 65+

What will change after Exit from the EU ?

That will depend on what action the UK government takes.

Working in Europe:

If the government opted to impose work permit restrictions, then other countries could reciprocate, meaning Britons would have to apply for visas to work.

If the UK Government say that all French and Germans can work and live in the UK, and the French and German governments reciprocate, then UK, French and Germans could still work and live and each others countries. This could apply to any country that the UK chooses, assuming the other country also wants that freedom. It is down to the UK government to choose.

What do the YOUNG Really Say and Think?

From the 18-24 age group, of 5.8 million people, the following figures are quoted:

81% supported Remain.
29% wanted to Leave

That could have been 4.76 million votes for REMAIN, if all had voted.

What do the OLD Really Say and Think?

From the 65 + age group, of 11 million people, the following figures are quoted:

41% supported Remain.
59% wanted to Leave

That could have been 4.53 million, votes for REMAIN if all had voted.

Population of England and Wales above Voting age:

5,506,111 Aged 18 to 24
7,863,016 Aged 25 to 34
11,571,388 Aged 35 to 49
10,595,797 Aged 50 to 64
10,336,345 Aged 65 plus

The BBC has reported: “Among pensioners, who came of age before the E.U. was created, a staggering 59% wanted their country to leave.”

That leaves 41% of pensioners wanting to REMAIN.
41% of the 10,336,345 aged 65 or over, adds up to 4,237,901 votes for REMAIN in England and Wales from Pensioners (The OLD)

If 100% of the under 24’s (The YOUNG) had voted REMAIN and
if 60% of the 25 to 34’s (Also YOUNG) had voted REMAIN and
41% (same as the blamed 65+ group) of the 35 to 64 age group had voted REMAIN, then the REMAIN vote would have been: 23,550,368 and that’s just England and Wales…

ONLY 13,266,996 voted REMAIN in England and Wales.

There were 13,369,127 possible voters in the aged 18-34 age group in England and Wales.
Add those 18-34 to the 4,237,901 OLD voters and there could have been 17,607,028 voting REMAIN in England and Wales.
That’s 4.34 million more than actually did. AND that’s before adding in the 35 to 64 age group.

The YOUNG could have swung it, IF they had VOTED REMAIN.

But the OLD, with 23% of the voting age population are being blamed, even though almost half of them voted REMAIN.
