Red Red Wine by…

Who sang Red Red Wine?

While watching the news today,  I heard the statement “UB40 made famous by their song Red Red Wine”.

I had to double check that, as I always think of Bob Marley or Niel Diamond for that song.

Red Red Wine was originally written, performed, and recorded by Neil Diamond in 1967. It was included on the Niel Diamond album “Just for You” which was released on 25 August 1967.

Jimmy James and the Vagabonds released their cover in July 1968, which reached Number 36 in the UK charts.

Tony Tribe, a Jamaican-born singer, recorded a reggae version in 1969. It reached number 46 on the UK Singles Chart.

UB40 recorded Red Red Wine in 1982 and it was released on 8 August 1983. This version reached number 1 on the UK Singles Chart in August 1983 and number 34 in the United States in March 1984.

Why is Bob Marley associated with Red Red Wine?

“Red, Red Wine” is a song written and performed by Neil Diamond in 1968.

Red, red wine
Go to my head
Makes me forget that I
Still need her so

Red, red wine
It’s up to you
All I can do, I’ve done
Memories won’t go
Memories won’t go

I’d have sworn
That with time
Thoughts of you
Would leave my head
I was wrong
Now I find
Just one thing makes me forget

Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don’t let me be alone
It’s tearin’ apart
My blue, blue heart

I’d have sworn
That with time
Thoughts of her
Would leave my head
I was wrong
And I find
Just one thing makes me forget

Red, red wine
Stay close to me
Don’t let me be alone
It’s tearin’ apart
My blue, blue heart
