Russia and Yandex


A Moscow court fined Yandex for failing to turn over user data to domestic intelligence services.

Yandex, a search engine and web portal, was found guilty of repeatedly refusing to provide the Federal Security Service (FSB) data on its users, which law enforcement officials said they needed in order to “search for people or ensure national security.”

Russian authorities have labeled the prominent legal and human rights group Agora an “undesirable organization.

The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office recognized Agora as a “threat to Russia’s constitutional order and security.”

The “undesirable” designation renders all of Agora’s activities illegal and forces its immediate closure.
