The Ferry between Cebu and Mactan runs from Pier 3 at the Cebu City Ferry terminal, and from Muelle Osmena Port in Lapu-Lapu city on Mactan Island.
The price of this 20 to 30 minute trip was just 12 pesos in 2011, with a 1 peso terminal fee.
The price in 2013 is….. (I’ll check tomorrow) but I am sure it will be cheaper than the taxi option 😉
The price was 14 pesos with an extra 1 peso terminal fee, paid at a separate counter. If they changed it to a 15 peso ticket, they could improve efficiency, but, this is the Philippines, and it does create an extra job for someone, so if everyone is happy, why change it.
Depending on start location and destination, I now wonder if the ferry is as cheap an option as it first appears:
My trip started with a taxi to Pier 3, then two tickets for the ferry, then a tricycle to our final destination: Total cost 170 pesos.
On our return, we took a taxi all the way back to our original start destination, at a metered charge of 180 peso.
The cost for the same trip using an “airport” “un-metered” taxi was 475 peso, just a few days before….
