Voting by Age Group in the EU Referendum..
This is a look at how the different age groups voted and what the result would have been if EVERYONE had voted.
It does appear that a better turnout from the younger generation would have given a Remain victory.
It also shows, that there would have been 4.4 million over 65’s who could have been in the Vote REMAIN camp, based on those same percentages from the first chart.
A chart showing the voting results taken from the Lord Ashcroft Polls website.
Remain | Leave | Group |
73% | 27% | 18-24 |
62% | 38% | 25-34 |
52% | 48% | 35-44 |
44% | 56% | 45-54 |
43% | 57% | 55-64 |
40% | 60% | 65+ |
From this we compare to the UK population charts, and the possible final referendum results, using the same percentages, would have shown a slight Remain victory, if everyone had voted.
UK Population by Age Group |
Remain | Leave | |
18-24 | 5,878,472 | 4,291,285 | 1,587,187 |
25-34 | 8,822,757 | 5,470,109 | 3,352,648 |
35-44 | 8,378,302 | 4,356,717 | 4,021,585 |
45-54 | 9,196,082 | 4,046,276 | 5,149,806 |
55-64 | 7,452,381 | 3,204,524 | 4,247,857 |
65+ | 11,054,901 | 4,421,960 | 6,632,941 |
Total | 50,782,895 | 25,790,871 | 24,992,024 |
50.79% | 49.21% |
Obviously due to age factors, not all of the Older generation would have been able to vote.
75.1 - 873,717
