Donald Trump and the NHS

Does Trump really want America to Run the NHS?..

The US appears to want the rights to continue being able to sell US products and services  to the NHS, as they currently do under the current US-EU deal. A deal that will end with Brexit.

    • Under current UK and EU procurement rules, US companies are guaranteed the right to tender for contracts in England as long as they have a presence within the EU. He cited the US-owned Priory Group, which has a significant role in providing mental health services to the NHS, and Centene UK, a technology and logistics provider and subsidiary of Centene Corporation, which works with some GP practices.

Brexit would actually kill the current deal the US already has.

However, later news: After backlash, Trump takes NHS off the table in trade talks

Morgan asked Trump: ‘No leader, it seems to me, would allow Britain to effectively sell the NHS as part of a trade deal.  Would you as the American president see that as a deal-breaker if none of the NHS was on the table?’

Trump replied: ‘I don’t see it being on the table. Somebody asked me a question today and I say everything is up for negotiation, because everything is but I don’t see that being … That’s something that I would not consider part of trade. That’s not trade.’

    • Trump appears to want to continue to deal with the UK on trade, including trade with the NHS.
