Duvet, Doona, Quilt or Comforter; What is the difference ?


English Language Variations.

Duvet:

A duvet is a quilt, usually with a washable cover, that may be used in place of a bedspread and top sheet.

Quilt:

A quilt is a coverlet or blanket made of two layers of fabric with a layer of cotton, wool, feathers, or down in between, all stitched firmly together.

Comforter

A comforter is a quilted bedcover.

Doona

Doona is the Australian name for continental quilt

 

These are common definitions of the same thing, many of us sleep with one on top of us.  In the United States the common term is “Comforter”, while in the United Kingdom people use “Quilts”, often called “Continental Quilts”.  Australia sometimes uses the term “Doona”.
