I am looking for a Family Tree software to cater for about the 2,000 names that I have in my tree so far.
I have used, and still use, online family trees, but I want something for my own computer, so I am beginning to try a few out, and will give my feelings about them here:
Legacy Family Tree Software
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/
This is available in a free version and a deluxe version ($29.95 at Oct 2011)
The Free Version does NOT allow:
- Date of Death
- Place of Death
- Search by First name AND Surname, just one or the other.
These are the first problems that I came across after loading the Legacy Family Tree 7.5 Software today.
My Result: Not an easy one to use for me, and the free version not suitable due to some missing information fields.
Gramps Family Tree Software
GRAMPS is a Free Software Project for Genealogy, offering a professional genealogy program to all. The word Gramps, although sort of linking to a word for Grandfather is actually the wording for: Genealogical Research and Analysis Management Programming System.
This was a 40mb download file.
My Result: I like it. I can see that it may not be as user friendly for some, when compared to the Legacy one, but for me, I did prefer this one.
