Poland.

Poland re-established itself as a democratic state in 1989, after being a part of the Soviet Republic, headed by Russia, since the Russian invasion of Poland on 17 September 1939.

In 1944, the Russian leader, Stalin, made guarantees to the UK and USA that he would allow free democratic elections to take place in Poland. However, after the WWII ended, those “free democratic election” results were falsified by the Russians, who then installed a new communist government in Poland.

March 1999: Poland officially joined NATO.

May 2004: Poland officially joined the EU.
