Creating a New User role in WordPress..
In a normal WordPress installation the users can be assigned to one of five predefined roles: Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, and Subscriber.
They can also go into Pending.
But what if you want a new specific role for some of your registered members.
I was looking for a way to set up some members without the option to actually read any posts, as an example “those with odd looking names“, as an option rather than deleting them.
This plugin might be handy to create new User Roles:
- Members – Membership & User Role Editor Plugin By MemberPress
It currently has over 200,000 active installations with a rating of 96% giving either 4 or 5 stars to the plugin. 91% gave it the full 5 stars.
This plugin automatically gives extra rolls and now includes:
Administrator
Editor
Author
Contributor
Subscriber
Pending
Keymaster – Your Role
Blocked
Moderator
Participant
Spectator
This actually seems to work well for me, as I can now set some of my “users” to the “blocked” role.
