Japan reducing LNG supplies from Russia.
Japan, the world’s second biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) buyer, depends on Russia for 9% of its LNG, or 6 million metric tons per year.
Since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Japanese buyers have increased reliance on countries such as the United States and Australia, for its future supplies of LNG.
