United Kingdom
19 Working nuclear reactors
13% of all electricity from nuclear power = 57 billion kWh
France
59 Working nuclear reactors
77% of all electricity from nuclear power = 419 billion kWh
Sweden
10 Working nuclear reactors
47% of all electricity from nuclear power = 64 billion kWh
Finland
4 Working nuclear reactors
29% of all electricity from nuclear power = 22 billion kWh
Switzerland
5 Working nuclear reactors
39% of all electricity from nuclear power = 26 billion kWh
That is a total of 97 working Nuclear reactors producing 588 billion kWh, an average of 6 billion kWh each.
Based on the above, and the power consumption figures for Australia (below), it would appear that if Australia had 24 Nuclear Power stations, they could remove all the current Coal fired power stations. (24 x 6 billion = 144 billion kWh)
In 2006 Australia’s power stations produced 255 billion kilowatt hours.
- 56% (143 billion kWh) from coal-fired Power Stations,
- 18% (46 billion kWh) from hydro and
- 22% (56 billion kWh) from gas.
