Vladimir Putin wants to Remember WW2 lessons.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, while addressing his armed forces at Moscow’s Red Square on Victory Day, told them “You are fighting for the motherland, for its future, so that no one forgets the lessons of the Second World War.”

What were the lessons from the Second World War?

The NAZI dictator, Adolf Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia on 30 September 1938, without resistance from other countries. The agreement was to give Hitler only the part of Czechoslovakia where 3 million ethnic Germans lived.
Then … Nazis take Czechoslovakia, 15 March 1939.

Then, on 1 September 1939, German troops invaded Poland triggering World War 2. German Invasion of Poland 1939.

Then, on 17 September 1939, the Russians (Soviet Union) invaded Poland from the east, sixteen days after Germany had invaded Poland from the west. Russian Invasion of Poland 1939.

The Russian/NAZI partnership divided Poland between the two of them, and Russia supplied the NAZI’s with raw material for their war effort.

How do the Russians remember WW2?

On 20 February 2014, Russia invaded the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine, without resistance from other countries. Putin stated that he only wanted to control the part of Ukraine where a substantial number of Russians lived, so they could be protected.

On 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, killing thousands and displacing about 13 million people.

Putin’s words were “It is not our plan to occupy the Ukrainian territory; we do not intend to impose anything on anyone by force.”

Why has Russia invaded Ukraine and what does Putin want?

In 1921, the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic was established when the Russian Red Army conquered two-thirds of Ukraine, with the Western third becoming part of Poland.

Then in 1939, Western Ukraine was annexed by the Soviet Union under the terms of the Nazi-Soviet Pact.

In 1954 Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev transferred the Crimean peninsula to Ukraine.

The Berlin Wall fell on 9 November 1989.

The Soviet Union disbanded between 16 November 1988 and 26 December 1991.

Ukraine Declared independence from the Soviet Union on 24 August 1991.
