A report showing which countries are the most and least racial was shown in various papers recently. But there were a few problems with the original reporting, and some annoyed countries.
The original report stated that according to the World Values Survey:
- 71.7 percent of Bangladeshis had said that they would not want a neighbor of a different race.
- 71.8 percent of Hong Kongers had said that they would not want a neighbor of a different race.
However, this had to be changed after some people checked the original data and found that it had been misread, and the actual figures were:
- 28.3 percent of Bangladeshis had said that they would not want a neighbor of a different race.
- 26.8 percent of Hong Kongers had said that they would not want a neighbor of a different race.
Quite a turnaround…
What were the actual questions asked though? What were the options ?
A translation of one of the questions is:
“26. For people with these background, which do you find unacceptable to be your neighbor?”
a – with criminal record
b – different race
c – heavy drinker
d – emotionally unstable
Answer: (1) acceptable (2) unacceptable

I have NOT selected any ONE country, I just picked the country with the highest figure for each topic from the table at: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/time-to-lead/multiculturalism/diversity-yes-in-my-backyard/article1736042.
I did exclude Hong Kong, as their figures for that are still wrong.
