UK National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) is a minimum amount per hour that most workers in the United Kingdom are entitled to be paid.

The NMW applies to employees aged between 16 and 22 years.
The National Living Wage (NLW) applies to employees aged 23 years and over.

At April 2021, the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) hourly rates were:

• £8.91 for employees aged 23 years and over
• £8.36 for employees aged 21 to 22 years
• £6.56 for employees aged 18 to 20 years
• £4.62 for employees aged 16 to 17 years
• £4.30 for apprentices aged under 19, and for those aged 19 years or over who are in the first year of their apprenticeship.

£8.91 per hour works out £333 per week (38 hours) or £17,606 per year.
