Ukraine Push into Russia, August 2024.

Ukraine invades Russia

Ten years after the Russian invasion into Ukraine, the Ukraine army has now attacked back into Russia, occupying about 1,000sq km of Russian territory in the Kursk region.

Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014, occupying Crimea, with further Ukraine territories being occupied, especially after 24 February 2022, when Russia invaded more parts of Ukraine in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which started in 2014.

Alexei Smirnov, a Russian statesman and politician, currently the acting governor of Kursk Oblast since 12 May 2024, told Putin that after six days of Ukrainian ground attacks on his region, 12 civilians had been killed and 121,000 people had left or been evacuated, with a planned evacuation of 180,000.

Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador-at-Large, Rodion Miroshnik, has called Ukraine’s attack into Russian territory a “terrorist action”.
This is compared to the Russian description of its own invasion of Ukraine as a “Special Military Operation”.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says Ukraine is trying to undermine Russian stability with its incursion into the south of the country and warns that Ukraine will receive “a worthy response”.

One wonders if Russia is trying to undermine Ukraine stability with its incursions into Ukraine since 2014.
