Will Wagner Group pull out of Bakhmut?
Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of Russia’s Wagner Group mercenary force, has said that he will withdraw his Wagner troops from the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut on 10 May 2023, because of heavy losses and inadequate ammunition supplies.
He said that he needs to pull his troops out of Bakhmut because they are doomed to perish senselessly under current conditions.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of Russia’s Wagner Group mercenary force, has accused Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, of being responsible for “tens of thousands of Wagner dead and injured“.
Wagner has been spearheading Russia’s attempt to capture Bakhmut, since 1 August 2022, but has so far been unable to take 100% of the city.
It is estimated that Wagner has lost about 25,000 of its soldiers in the fighting to take Bakhmut.
