The SuperFerry, SuperCat and Cebu Ferries, owned by Aboitiz Transport System, were taken over by Negros Navigation which was then sold to the China-Asean Investment Cooperation Fund, and the business was relaunched as 2GO Travel.

Incidents involving the Superferries

  • SuperFerry 3 Totally burned out while in drydock in Cebu. February 8, 2000
  • SuperFerry 6 Sunk after catching fire, 1,000+ passengers rescued. October 12, 2000
  • SuperFerry 7 caught fire on after unloading passengers in Manila and was destroyed. March 1997 www.upibalon.com
  • SuperFerry 9 Sank during the General Santos to Iloilo route with 9 people missing from 966 passengers. September 6, 2009
  • Superferry 12 Caught fire off the coast of Bantayan Island. No injuries to the 664 passengers. March 9, 2006

CAF Makes Maiden Investment
Marking the Fund’s maiden investment, the China-ASEAN Investment Cooperation Fund (CAF) has invested in the Philippine shipping and logistics industry through an equity investment into Negros Navigation (NN) to buyout Aboitiz Transport System (ATS). ATS is the largest domestic shipping and logistic company in the Philippines followed by NN.CAF’s investment will help drive consolidation in the industry and enhance the movement of cargo and passengers in this distinctly archipelagic country.
