No Visa Requirement for British short holidays in Europe, even with No Deal..
European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans has stated that there would be an exemption to visa rules for British Visitors to EU countries in Europe, as long as the UK did the same for EU nationals.
“We propose to amend the visa regulation to allow UK nationals to be exempt from any visa requirement for short stays in the EU once EU law stops applying to the UK.”
If No Deal is reached, then the arrangement that allows the British to spend up to 90 days within any 180 day period, will come into effect on 30th March 2019.
If a deal is agreed, the arrangement would come into effect from the end of any transition period, currently scheduled to be at the end of 2020.
The EU Commission said that if no deal was reached, this arrangement would start from 30 March, and if a deal was agreed, it would begin from the end of any transition period, which is currently scheduled to be at the end of 2020.
There will be no change to entry requirements for British citizens travelling to the EU or for EU citizens travelling to the UK during the Implementation Period (30 March 2019 to 31 December 2020).
The UK already grants similar visa-free travel to nationals from 56 countries; adding in Europe should not be a major issue.
