Great Grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II

Only the great-grandchildren of a parent in direct line to the throne will gain the title Prince or Princess in the United Kingdom.

In this instance the direct line is:

Queen Elizabeth II > Prince Charles > Prince William > Prince George.

Other great-grandchildren of the living Monarch are not normally given the title Prince or Princess at birth.

In 1917, George V stated that the Monarch’s grandchildren can hold Prince or Princess royal titles.
This wording in his patent is important for the great grandchildren of the Monarch: “The grandchildren of the sons of any such sovereign in the direct male line (save only the eldest living son of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales) shall have and enjoy in all occasions the style and title enjoyed by the children of dukes of these our realms.”
